If you are a micro-business where your computer contains all of your important files and folders, or you have remote workers that rarely visit the office then a cloud-backup might be the answer. Typically, these work by uploading a complete copy of your computer to a server in a remote data-center, then periodically uploading the changed files when you have an internet connection.
There are a range of solutions depending on how much data you wish to store and/or the number of days, weeks or years worth of data that you wish to retain.
An alternative to using a traditional cloud-backup solution is to save your work directly to a cloud-platform such as Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365). By using an online cloud storage then you get additional benefits such as being able to view and edit your documents on a variety of devices such as your mobile phone or tablet device.
In conjunction with our backup and data recovery partners, Datto Inc, we can provide a resilient and reliable on premise and cloud backup solution. With the Datto Alto and Sirrus backup platforms, an on premise device is installed which takes regular backups of your servers throughout the day to its local drive. Each backup is verified by testing that the backup will reach the login, if the login screen is not reached then an alert is triggered.
Each day the changes are sent to the Datto secure cloud backup servers where weekly, monthly and annual copies of your data are stored.
Should a disaster or system failure occur with your on premise server then you can start a virtual copy of your server on the Datto device or in the Datto cloud. Once your server is fixed then you can migrate the changes back from the Datto device to your physical with little to virtually no downtime.
This solution also allows you to pre-test upgrades and software patches on a virtual copy of your server and provide resilience should a problem occur.

FEATURED DATTO TECHNOLOGY AND SERVICES
Instant On-site and Off-site Virtualisation Backups from Datto appliances can be virtualised locally to the Datto device or to the secure Datto Cloud, instantly, with the click of a button. Should a local disaster occur, a business can continue as usual in the Datto Cloud. Even while virtualised, systems can perform a normal backup schedule to both the Datto device and to the Datto Cloud.
Hybrid Virtualisation – This is the combination of instant off-site virtualisation and the single click connectivity of instant local virtualisation.
Inverse Chain Technology – This proprietary technology eliminates broken backup chains. Each time a backup occurs on an appliance, data is converted directly into a virtual machine, with the most recent backup image always being the base image. Data is always available immediately, both on and off-site.
End-to-End Encryption – All data is protected by AES 256 encryption both in transit and in the cloud. For Datto appliances, Partners have the option to encrypt data locally, and pass phrases can be specified per appliance or per protected machine to meet compliance regulations.
Broad Operating System – Support Datto appliances support both Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. For Windows machines, support currently ranges from Windows 2000 to Windows 8 and Server 2012. Granular recovery is also available for Exchange and Sharepoint servers. Datto also supports multiple Linux based operating systems including versions of Ubuntu, Fedora, and CentOS.
Cloud-to-Cloud Backup Support – Datto Backupify gives you the ability to back up data within your SaaS applications, including Office 365, Google Apps, and Salesforce. Protect your data from user errors, malicious deletions, and viruses with automated, daily backup.
Time-Based Cloud Retention – Datto’s unique billing model takes the guesswork out of cloud billing. Storage for appliances is based on time-frames versus trying to estimate how many gigabytes a customer may need; available in 1, 3 or 7 year options. It establishes a predictable cloud billing model for both the MSP and their customer.
Screenshot Backup Verification – No more guessing if your backup is working properly. Datto appliances boot backups as virtual machines, capturing an image of the login page to give you visual proof that your data has been successfully backed up. An industry first.
Backup Insights – This groundbreaking proprietary technology on appliances allows you to identify file or application changes between any two backup points. You can easily find that deleted folder or determine which files a virus affected.
Centralised Management – All Datto solutions are controlled through a central, easy to use web interface. For Datto appliances, Partners can con figure devices, schedule backup reports, monitor off-site amounts, set up alerts, access marketing support, and more.
ownCloud on SIRIS – Datto is proud to partner with ownCloud to deploy the Enterprise Edition v7 of their solution to SIRIS 1, SIRIS 2 and Virtual SIRIS devices. This new best-in-class file sync and share utility lets users access files from anywhere using desktop or mobile clients and synchronises changes to keep files up to date all while storing the data right on their SIRIS in their local infrastructure rather than relying on a public cloud. And because IT professionals manage the onsite hardware and can establish granular access restrictions, users get enterprise level simplicity and security unmatched by consumer file sharing services.
Better Bare Metal Restore – Restore full machines quickly and efficiently through our USB Bare Metal Restore process. Go from physical machines to virtual (P2V) or vice versa with our unique dissimilar hardware tool that allows for maximum flexibility when restoring. No drives or cables needed as the system can run completely over the user’s network.
Physical and Virtual Platforms – Our Intelligent Business Continuity solutions can now be purchased as a virtual appliance to support a virtual infrastructure in addition to our physical hardware. Virtual SIRIS supports VMware. Virtual ALTO supports VMware, Hyper-V and XenServer.
Award-Winning Support – Datto Tech Support is the only channel-based BDR support that is 100% in-house, available 24/7/365.
