The Microsoft Office 365 suite is a hosted, online version of the traditional installed version of Microsoft Office software. This online service is subscription-based and includes Office, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Lync Online and Microsoft Office Web Apps.
The advantage of the Microsoft Office 365 suite is that the cloud service is provided by Microsoft and, thus, eliminates a company’s IT maintenance tasks, such as patching, and infrastructure support costs. For end users, the advantage is the ability to access Office 365 offerings using any device anywhere with an internet connection.
Upcoming changes to MS 365
We have received an email regarding some upcoming changes for the personal subscription users. We noticed that there is very little information about these upcoming changes to Microsoft 365 online so we decided to share these changes with you. These changes will mainly be updates to Microsoft storage.
Personalised email address in Outlook.com
From 30th November 2023 from a personal subscription you can no longer associate a new personalised email address with your outlook.com mailbox. A personalised email is for example myname@example.com.
However if you have already associated a personal email address with your outlook.com you can continue using this email address. If you remove that personalised email address after 30th November 2023 you cannot add it back should you change your mind.
Cloud Storage
From 1st February 2023 the cloud storage of 1TB which is used for all Microsoft 365 apps will include Outlook.com attachments data and also OneDrive data. Of course all data will be protected by MS security as normal.
We must say that this will not impact your personal Outlook.com mailbox storage capacity. This change may reduce how much cloud storage you have available for OneDrive. As you may know when you reach your cloud storage quota, this will affect you sending and receiving emails. To ensure you still have sufficient cloud storage Microsoft will add at least an extra 50GB of cloud storage to your personal account for one year starting on 1st February 2023. This extra storage is only available for one year.
New apps for MS 365
As stated Microsoft 365 will continue to protect your emails, files and data with advanced security protection. In addition to this Microsoft has recently launched two new apps with your subscription. Included in MS 365 is now Clipchamp which enables you to create and edit professional looking videos. Also added is Microsoft Defender for to offer you extra security.
