Plan for end of Windows 10 Support

Windows 10 will reach end of support (EOS) on 14th October 2025. While two years may seem like a long time, ensuring a modernised infrastructure in place in a timely manner is essential to maintain your organisation’s productivity and ensure data security. It is important that your organisation plans for the end of Windows 10 support.

At Tech-Wales we see that customers who have already switched to Windows 11 are taking advantage of the benefits to work as safely and productively as possible. In this article we inform you about the different options you have to make a smooth transition to Windows 11.

What does the end of support for Windows 10 mean?

When Windows 10 reaches end of support, Microsoft will no longer provide bug fixes for issues, security fixes for vulnerabilities, time zone updates, or technical support for potential issues.

Version 22H2 is the final version of Windows 10. All editions of Windows 10, version 22H2, will continue to be supported with monthly security updates until 14th October 2025.

End of Support (EOS) for Windows 10 will occur in less than two years. We would now like to inform you about the switch to a modern system. It poses major risks if your organisation uses software that is no longer supported and therefore no longer receives security updates. Organisations that continue to use outdated software are at risk of significant security issues and potential regulatory violations.

Your options for moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11

Windows 11 is the most secure Windows ever. Its extensive capabilities, including Copilot in Windows, are designed to keep organisations protected and productive. These measures include built-in advanced encryption, data and credential security, robust system security and network security, and intelligent protection against evolving threats.

In addition to upgrading new Windows 11-enabled devices, your options include the following for optimal Windows 11 adoption:

  • Get new Windows 11 Pro PCs with all the great security features enabled by default. Also Tech-Wales can deliver your new PCs directly with Windows Autopilot, saving you time setting them up.
  • Migrate to the Cloud and subscribe to Windows 365 to make Windows 11 available to users on any Cloud PC device.

Refresh your outdated PCs to new Windows 11-enabled devices

Let your employees work in the most secure Windows system with Windows 11.

Step 1: To get started, it’s important to understand which devices in your installation base aren’t eligible through Microsoft Intune.

Step 2: For devices that are not eligible for Windows 11, or older devices that are due for an upgrade, now is the time to move to new PCs with Windows 11. New modern devices from our partners such as HP, Dell, Lenovo and more from the Windows ecosystem provide a wide range of options to meet different employee needs. Migrate to Windows 11 in the Cloud with Windows 365

As you work to modernise your IT infrastructure, you can transition employees with Windows 10 PCs to Windows 11 in the Cloud with Windows 365. This way, your employees are always up to date with the latest Windows 11 version and the latest security protection.

Windows 365 subscriptions will include Extended Security Updates (ESUs) at no additional cost for Windows 10 devices that access Windows 365.

There may be scenarios within your organisation where you are looking for options and flexibility to continue using older Windows 10 PCs for longer. Extending the life of Windows 10 PCs with Extended Security Updates and Windows 365 becomes a real possibility to support certain workforce groups and still move to Windows 11. You can extend the life of these devices by another 3 years.

Windows 365 recently made a new service option generally available for frontline and shift workers. If employees are not using a dedicated personal computer, but rather a shared device or an older device, they can use Windows 11 through Windows 365. In these scenarios, you can extend the use of older Windows 10 PCs.

Extended Security Update program for Windows 10

While we highly recommend moving to Windows 11, we understand that there may be circumstances that prevent you from replacing Windows 10 devices before the EOS date. Therefore, Microsoft will offer Extended Security Updates.

Like the Windows 7 ESU program, your organisation can purchase an annual subscription to security updates. The annual commitment is renewable for three years. Devices enrolled in ESUs will receive monthly security updates to keep these Windows 10 PCs secure.

The ESU program for Windows 10 will include critical and/or important security updates. ESUs do not include new features, customer-requested updates, or design change requests. Technical support outside the ESU itself is also not available.

For Windows 365 customers, ESUs are provided for the Windows 10 devices that connect to a Cloud PC running Windows 11 at no additional cost.

If you are running a Windows 10 installation in Azure Virtual Desktop, ESUs are also available at no additional cost on those virtual machines.
