Microsoft will add new features to MS Teams to improve functionality on a regular basis to help your organisation work remotely. Tech-Wales gives you an overview of the new features in MS Teams for February 2022.
Not seeing yourself in a meeting
During a meeting in MS Teams, you can always see yourself in a corner. This can be distracting. That’s why Microsoft now gives you the option to click yourself away. You no longer see your own video image, but other participants do see you. You can also still see the meeting participants if they have their camera on.
Pin messages to a chat
You get a lot of chat messages and before you know it you can’t find that important chat message anymore. Think of an important URL that you will need at a later time. You can now pin these types of messages to a chat. You do not only secure these for yourself, but also for the colleagues you chat with. This way you can find the chat easily and quickly.
- Go to the message you want to pin.
- Click on the message. You see three dots. Click on this.
- If you have clicked on the three dots, a number of options will appear. Choose ‘Pin’
Shortcut to unmute
You’re still on mute. A phrase that everyone probably hears very often. Then quickly look for the unmute icon. A handy shortcut that has become available in Microsoft Teams is CTRL + space for Windows and option + space for Mac. If you press this shortcut you will no longer be muted.
The new Music Mode feature optimises the sound quality of sounds other than speech. This allows you to create a richer sound experience during your online meeting. Think of live music or songs via other applications that you play while sharing your screen during a presentation.
How do you set this up?
Step 1: Click on the three dots at the top right of Teams next to your profile picture.
Step 2: Click on Settings.
Step 3: Go to the Devices heading and click on High fidelity music mode. At the next meeting you now have a musical note in your meeting.
Change your wallpaper in the web version
Until now it was only possible to change your wallpaper in the Teams app. Now you can do this in the web version too. This is useful if you work in two environments and want to join meetings via both the app and the web.
Last but not least, Microsoft has redesigned all emojis. Also new ones have been added and more will follow. You see more and more a mix of personal and business.
