As previously announced, Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) is almost retiring and will no longer be supported. The desktop application will be retired for certain versions of Windows 10 on 15th June 2022. This means that the application will no longer be supported from then on and is advised by Microsoft to be replaced by Microsoft Edge in the coming months. Eventually, IE11 will be disabled via Windows Update.
So you still have a month to ensure a smooth transition from IE11 to Edge or any other browser of choice. Microsoft recommends doing this before 15th June 2022. It is vital that you prepare your organisation for this. In order to continue to use a properly working browser, it is advisable to switch to an alternative browser as soon as possible.
How this can affect your organisation
If your organisation has outdated sites and apps with IE dependencies, you’ll need to set IE mode so that users can access them through Microsoft Edge. If you don’t set IE mode before IE11 is discontinued or disabled, users will lose access to those outdated sites and you may experience outages.
Important: After 15th June 15 2022, the IE11 desktop application will be removed from versions of Windows 10 via a Windows Update. Microsoft does not recommend avoiding these updates to maintain IE11, as Windows updates contain critical security patches for the operating system.
What do you need to do to be prepared
Microsoft recommends setting up Edge in your organisation to replace IE11. If your organisation needs support for legacy browsers, you should set up IE mode in Microsoft Edge as soon as possible, as this is a multi-step process.
